Septic systems for bushfire-affected community

LOCATIONNambucca ValleyDRIVEN BYKathleen Crawley

The Nambucca Valley is an hour south of Coffs Harbour and was one of many townships damaged by the 2019 bushfires. The ongoing cleanup has been long and arduous. Local families are still living in tents and sheds.

Project

Local resident Kathleen Crawley worked with other volunteers to identify the community's most vulnerable families and get them temporary accomodation. But Kathleen wanted to future-proof the blocks of land for these families — by installing septic systems that will last them through to new permanent housing.

Outcomes

Drew Walker Plumbing and Nambucca Plumbing are installing septic systems at properties across the Valley. Installing 17 septic systems across 2 years has meant these sites are hooked up to a permanent septic system.

The project instilled hope for those that had lost everything that they would once again have a building they could call home.
